David & Susan
We could not be more pleased with the outcome of our home renovation by Jason Kamps Builders. We live in a modest home in a pleasant neighborhood in Andover, and we debated for several years whether we should update our house, or move to another, more updated one. We knew that our kitchen and main bathroom were dated, but we also wanted our house to be renovated in other ways to make it something special, a house that we would be proud of. We now have just that: our dream home, and we’re still in the same house.
We met Jason Kamps from a friend who had worked with Jason and had seen his work firsthand. About a year before our house renovation, we asked Jason to construct some built-in cabinets for our living room. We had an idea of what we wanted, but Jason had strong alternative suggestions that we followed, and the outcome was just outstanding. His attention to detail, fit, and finish, and his quest toward perfection in his work, impressed us. Before seeing Jason’s work, we were a little surprised by the price of his estimate; however, we quickly forgot the price because of the extraordinary quality of his product.
The quality of his craftsmanship and his professionalism led us to call upon Jason again when we were ready to begin our full-scale home renovation. As we worked with Jason on our vision for our home, Jason suggested that we work with a home designer, Laine M. Jones Design, from West Newbury, MA. We did so, and we were highly impressed both with the inspiration and intelligence of Laine’s plans for transforming our home, and by the seamlessness of Laine and Jason’s collaboration on our project. Laine’s vision and insistence on fine detail, and Jason’s execution precisely to Laine’s specifications, was impressive. Several times, in-the-field modifications were necessary, and the Laine/Jason team handled these without a hiccup. Laine Jones is as gifted a designer as is Jason a craftsman.
Our home renovation project began in October, 2012, and finished in April, 2013. Jason estimated that the project would take about 4 months, but we chose to add on several other major components to the job that were not originally envisioned. So, a six-month duration was not surprising for us. One of our requirements of this project was that we needed to be able to remain in our home during the construction. Given the scope of our project, we knew that would not be easy for us as a family or for Jason’s crew. Indeed, it wasn’t easy for anyone, but we must give credit and thanks to Jason and his crew—and all of the sub-contractors who worked on the project as well—for the respect that they paid to our family during the project. They were always professional, courteous, clean and neat, and were considerate of the fact that we were still living in our home, in the middle of a very busy construction zone, during the winter months. We became friendly with each of Jason’s skilled crew members—Dan, Scott, and Mark; they are all gentlemen, in addition to being highly skilled carpenters.
By the end of our project, there was not a room in our home that wasn’t touched. We removed several walls in our living room/dining room/kitchen spaces, and now have a first floor that is open, airy, and flooded with natural light. We have gleaming new hardwood floors throughout, a stunning new staircase, an updated family room with a gas fireplace, and a bathroom that is spectacular. And our new kitchen is a simply a dream. Our house is completely reinsulated and rewired, and we now have a new furnace and whole-house generator. And, no surprise: the detail on everything was first-class. Brilliant.
In closing, we’d like to comment on our perception of how Jason does business. Jason is remarkably attentive to his customers, and once he and his crew began our project, they did not leave the project until it was complete. They made us feel that we were the sole focus of their efforts until the project was done, and Jason was 100% accessible to us, 24/7. One of his crew was at our home nearly every day, and Jason responded immediately to any concerns that we had during the course of the project. We always felt connected to Jason personally, and he never hesitated to immediately do what was necessary to address our concerns or needs. Jason managed his sub-contractors (electricians, plumbers, HVAC, insulation, flooring, tile, painting, etc.) closely, and Jason took responsibility for their product as well—which was superb, too. We have heard horror stories from other home renovation projects about how, once the contract was signed with a contractor, that they would not show up for weeks or months, the project was drawn out forever, with long periods of no one showing up to do the work, that the sub-contractors ran rough-shod over their homes with out any management, etc. Our project with Jason was exactly the opposite.
We are now big fans of Jason Kamps Builders, and we don’t hesitate to let others know of our experience. Jason and his crew do their work to the highest standards of craftsmanship with the finest materials, and stand behind their work 100%. Jason delivers a very high quality product, and that doesn’t come cheaply. But the old adage holds here: you get what you pay for. We got what we paid for, and we could not be happier.
